1) Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan today said the state is going through a very serious situation. He said almost all villages in the state have been affected by floods caused by continuous rain in the past few days.

2) Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured the Centre will provide all possible assistance to Kerala. He has instructed the defence ministry to press in additional teams of the army, navy, air force and the NDRF.

3) Kerala chief secretary Ton Jose has issued an order asking all departments to make available all resources (man and vehicles) for relief and rescue works in their districts, as and when asked by the district collector. He has warned departments that no lapse will be accepted in this regards.

4) Issuing an alert, the state government has asked people living in low-lying areas along Chalakudy river and its tributaries to move to higher locations as a precautionary measure. Water level of the Periyar river is also above the danger mark.

5) The Supreme Court on Thursday termed the situation in Kerala as "grave". The Supreme Court also agreed to hear a plea seeking Centre's mediation between Kerala and Tamil Nadu governments on the issue of the Mullaperiyar Dam crossing the 142 feet threshold.

6) The Kochi airport has been shut down till August 26 after water level inside the airport continued to rise.

7) Airlines have cancelled flights to Kochi and announced alternate ones to Thiruvananthapuram, Chennai and other cities.

8) The railway s has diverted most long-distance trains passing through Kerala. The Thiruvananthapuram railway station has stopped issuing tickets until the situation improves.

9) Teams of army, air force, coast guard and navy have started operations to airlift stranded people in different parts of the state.

10) The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert and forecast heavy to very heavy rain on Friday.
